Skilled Trades Explorer Post #555 Career Exploration Meeting

The Skilled Trades Explorer Post #555 Career Exploration will kick off their year on Sept. 24 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Gates Memorial Park Pavilion at 160 Spencerport Road, Rochester, NY 14606. This post is open to all young adults ages 14-20 interested in learning more about the skilled trades. These fields include Carpentry, HVAC, Heavy Equipment, Roofing/Painting, Drywall, Plumbing, Electrical and Masonry. They will participate in hands-on projects, working onsite with local contractors, asking questions and learning from those who work in these fields. Explorers will receive guidance on how to position themselves for careers in the skilled trades. This Post offers two components: Overview for first year Explorers and Mentoring for Explorers who have completed Overview.

Once enrolled in this Explorer Post, students have the opportunity to attend eight on-site sessions, generally held on the third Tuesday of each month, beginning in October. Each session will be sponsored by a different contractor, focusing on the Skilled Trade scheduled for that day.

Explorers in 12th grade have the opportunity to apply for a $1,500 scholarship competition.

Parents are invited to attend the kickoff meeting with their students on Sept. 24 to learn more about this Explorer Post. RSVP to John Sheible at john.sheible@scouting.org or 585-241-8558 or David Zollweg at dzollweg@gmr-usa.com or 585-429-1330 x131.
