Notice Regarding Military Recruitment
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Section 9528 states: “Each local education agency receiving assistance under this Act shall provide, on request, made by military recruiters or an institution of higher education, access to secondary school students’ names, addresses and telephone listings.” A parent/guardian may request the student’s name, address and telephone listings not be released to military recruiters. Parents/guardians may write to the school with their child’s name and address on the letter and with their own full name and signature requesting the child’s information not be released to the military. Please note: The letter needs to be sent each year the child is in grades 9-12.
A sample letter is as follows:
Attention: Kendall Central School District - Please do not release (insert first and last name of the child)’s name, phone number and/or address to military recruiters according to our rights under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
